Professor Christopher Länzlinger from Geneva University Paid an Academic Visit in CFL of NKU

During November 7, 2019 to November 11, Christopher Länzlinger, a linguistic professor in Geneva University was invited to Nankai University to have an academic exchange with students and teachers from CFL. During the visit, an agreement on exchange program between the School of Linguistics of Geneva University and the French Department of Nankai University was also signed.

On November 7, Professor Christopher Länzlinger had a deep exchange in terms of French grammar teaching with teachers from the French Department: Lv Ying, Fu Shuhui, Chong Yize, Wang Caixia, and foreign teacher Edwige, giving his professional feedbacks from the perspective of linguistics, which has a constructive significance to the future grammar teaching in the French Department.

On the morning of November 8, having attended the lecture of “From the Conditional Mode of Expressing Subjective Tense in French to the Modal Meaning of Chinese Character ‘Hui’ in Mandarin” delivered by Wang Caixia, Professor Länzlinger have a thorough academic discussion on linguistics mentioned in Mrs. Wang’s lecture with her. After that, students from French Department 2017 gave a splendid presentation on the history of Nankai University, of CFL, and of French Department through a variety of means such as Power Point and video.

In the afternoon, Professor Länzlinger came to CFL and initiated an overall and detailed communication on academic cooperation between the School of Linguistics of Geneva University and Nankai University, with deputy professor Wang Kai, the deputy dean of CFL and Liu Jiping, the head of French Department. An agreement of MOU between the two schools was taken into shape.

In addition, Professor Länzlinger gave two lectures—“Interlinguistic approaches” and “Un voyage à travers la grammaire française par le métalangage” at CFL on November 9 and November 10 afternoon respective. The former one was presented via English and attracted a lot of teachers and students from English, French, and Japanese Department to attend, winning tremendous applause and acclaim. The later was in French and teachers and students from French Department took the lecture. As the lecture was concluded, couples of students raised questions and gave their feedbacks, stating that they had benefited quite a lot from Professor Länzlinger’s lecture. The visit not only provides a precious opportunity for the teachers and students of CFL to have an academic exchange, but also contributes greatly to the international exchange program of French Department and CFL.
