On October 25, 2019, teachers and students from the Department of Italian participated in the inaugural Italian Phonetic Contest across Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area held in the Beijing Language and Culture University and won the third group place. Altogether seven teams were present including the NKU, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Language and Culture University, University of International Business and Economics, Communication University of China, Tianjin Foreign Studies University and Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology.
The delegation team from the Department of Italian of the NKU composed of contestants Wang Yifei of class 2017, Li Mengjia and Liu Xingyi of class 2018, and assistant actress Wu Shimin and Zhou Yu of class 2018, who were tutored by their foreign teacher Letizia Vallini, Shi Dou and Alessandra Di Maria, a foreign student from the College of Chinese and a postgraduate student from Istituto Universitario Orientale di NAPOLI.
The competition consisted of two parts: movie dubbing and drama performance. The optional and scheduled clips they performed was respectively Do you remember me? (Ti ricordi di me? ) and Habemus Papam while the drama was Carlo Goldoni's Female Owner.
They performed very well with smooth dialogues in both sessions. The efforts over the past few months have yielded the Third Group Prize award. Joyful, the contestants were also aware of the strengths of other institutions. This competition is not only a practice for the improvement of their pronunciation and intonation, but also a driver for the future study in the Italian learning.
