On October 24, 2019, the Fifth National High-level Forum on the Construction of Russian Discipline in Colleges and Universities and the Second Congress of the Association of Chinese teachers of Russian Languages and Literature were held at Shandong University.
The conference announced 10 Lifetime Achievement Award for Russian Education in China, 17 Outstanding Contribution Award for Russian Education in China, and awarded certificates for recognition.
Gu Hengdong (Gu Yu), a professor from the Department of Russian of the CFL was awarded the certificate for recognition of Lifetime Achievement Award for Russian Education in China in the second Congress.
Professor Gu Hengdong graduated from the Department of Russian in 1965 and worked as a teacher at the university. He has once been the director of Teaching and Research Office for the Russian Literature and a tutor of postgraduates. Following this, he has become a member of the Tianjin Writers Association and the St. Petersburg Writers Association, and a senior translator in China. Besides, he has been Vice Chairman of the Association for Pushkin Studies in China and Deputy Secretary-General of Tianjin Translators Association, etc.
Professor Gu Hengdong took the lead on the Chinese version of the History of Literature in Russian Silver Age (four volumes), which was published by Dunhuang Literature and Art Publishing House in 2006. It would be reprinted in 2019 funded by the National Publishing Fund. As the editor-in-chief of From Onegin to And Quiet Flows the Don(volumeⅠandⅡ), he expounded his interpretation of the Russian translation. He cooperated with Russian sinologist Sergei Toroptsev to translate into Russian The Three Peaks of the Poetry Kingdom and Seven Hundred Years of Splendor, the Chinese contemporary poem The Shape of the Wind, and the Russian translation of Zhang Ziyang's The Dream of Sea, which have already published in St. Petersburg, Russia. The textbook of Chinese-Russian edition of Chinese Poetry was listed in the national 13th Five-Year Key Book Project and sponsored by the National Publishing Fund. He has been awarded the Pushkin Medal (1999) by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Anyansky Poetry Translation Award (2015) by the Petersburg Writers Association, and the Top Ten Good Book Nomination Award for Tribute to Translator of the Year in Shenzhen and National Chen Zi’ang Poetry Translator Award in Poetry Review 2018.
Professor Gu Hengdong, his pseudonym Gu Yu, has continued written books in his over-50-year teaching career and has published a large number of translations. They were poetry collections including Three Hundred Famous Russian Poems, Pushkin's Poems, Pushkin's Love Poems, Fet Poems, Balmont Poems, Bryushov Poems, Zuning Poems, Selected Poems of Tayeva, Selected Poems of Berleshchen, Selected Poems of Gamzatov, Selected Poems of Rozhdestvensky, Complete Works of Krylov's Fables, etc., Biography Marina Zvi·Tayeva: Biography of Her Life and Literature Creation, Biography of Likhachev, and Novels In the World, Chains of Evil Old Man, Chekhov Short Story, Benevelence and Beauty inx Tablets for the youth, etc.
Professor Gu Yu's academic research covers Russian literature, Russian poetry, Russian Sinology, and Chinese-Russian poetry translation. In addition, he has published dozens of academic papers and a monograph entitled Sailing and Drifting on the Sea of Poetry--Russian-Chinese Poetry Translation and Research.
Established by the Chinese Russian Teaching Research Association in 2016, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Russian Education in China and Russian Education Outstanding Contribution Award were held every three years to recognize scholars who have worked for Chinese Russian education for more than 50 years.
