On October 15th, Prof. Liu Yingmin, a alumnus 1972 of the CFL, returned to his alma mater and deliverd a report to all MTI students of 2019.
Zou Yujie, Party Secretary of the CFL, Guo Guodong, President of the college, Jiao Yanting, Vice President of the college and Gao Tianming, Secretary General of the Nankai Alumni Association of the CFL attended the meeting. Ma Hongqi, Vice President of the college presided over symposium. At the meeting, Liu Yingmin was appointed as a part-time professor of the CFL and Yan Guodong, on behalf of the college, issued a certificate for him. Yan Guodong said that the alumni were a valuable asset of Nankai. He hoped that the students would learn something from them and continued their efforts to carry forward the tradition of “knowing China and serving China” embraced by the NKU.
Liu Yingmin first shared with students her own study experience in the NKU and the practical tips of becoming an interpreter of the UN. Afterwards, she expressed her gratitude for opportunities offered by the uniersity in her time. Liu Yingmin imparted to the students the qualities essential to become a good interpreter, that is, to develop a good habit of fast speaking, quick thinking, and articulate speeches on the basis of linguistic proficiency. Besides she taught the most instructive suggestions and opinions to young students summarized from the experience of her long career simultaneous interpretating. Finally, she invited Gao Tianming to do simultaneous interpretation of a piece of message, winning a round of applause owing to his excellent performance. In the session for questions, Liu Yingmin gave her answers, expounded her through thoughts and insights on the interpreting industry in the context of technological revolution.
Amiable but humorous, Prof. Liu Yingmin, starting from his own practical experience, and quoting some resources, with her sharp tongue, presented a fun and rewarding academic report for the teachers and students of the NKU. At the beginning of the report, Liu Yingmin emphasized the significance of the NKU to her and expressed her earnest hope to the students of the CFL across the generations. She has set an example for students for her interpreting proficiency and her profound feeling for the NKU. Students said that they would be true to their heart and keep their goal in mind. Indoing so, they would give full play to their potential and live up to the ardent expectations of their predecessors by saving time to study hard.
