Teachers from the NKU were invited to attend the 2019 International Conference of Korean Society of Applied Linguistics and the 6th East Asia Symposium of the International Society of Applied Linguistics

From September 27th to 28th, 2019, invited by the Korean Society of Applied Linguistics and appointed by the China's Society of Applied Linguistics, Prof. Zhang Wenzhong, Dr. Liu Binmei and Dr. Zhang Chen from the Department of English attended the 6th East Asia Symposium of the Korean Society of Applied Linguistics and the International Society of Applied Linguistics held in Seoul, South Kerea. This conference focused on the integration of applied linguistics. At the meeting, Prof. Zhang Wenzhong, Liu Binmei and Zhang Chen delivered speeches as special guests.

Entitled with “The Right Empower Approach to Tertiary Level ELT in China: A 5R Perspective”, Prof. Zhang Wenzhong gave a brief introduction to his pioneering idea “ the right empower approach”, and expouned the significance of the approach to the reform of English teaching in Chinese universities. In a forum together with representatives from the Japanese Society of Applied Linguistics and the Korean Society of Applied Linguistics, they explored the integrated development of East Asian applied linguistics. In the topic Social class, language attitudes, and language use: A case study of Chinese university students, Mr. Liu Binmei explained the implication of social class for language attitudes and language use. 

In the topic The impact of perfectionism on L2 English writing, Zhang Chen’s demonstrated how the perfectionism affected English writing.  Extensive discussions and positive exchanges were made in the conference. All in all, it is inspiring for both the teachers of the NKU and other representatives.
