At 18:30, September 24, Edoardo, a garden designer graduating from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, was invited to deliver a keynote lecture “Orit botanici e giardini” for the teachers and students from Italian major of NKU.

At the very beginning, Edoardo spoke highly of Chinese horticulture via analyzing the unique cultural feature of traditional Chinese gardens—inspiration from the Chinese painting.

Next, Edoardo illustrated the detailed difference and similarity between Chinses horticulture and Italian horticulture through Power Point.

Edoardo emphasized that as the representatives of Chinese and Western civilization, Chinese and Italian horticulture shares differences and similarities. In order to make the students have more direct perception about the features of the two horticultures, Edoardo showed the pictures of Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, Pompeii and Roman Garden to them. Chinese gardens have large scale and abundant content, containing various landscaping conceptions influenced by ancient geomancy. Italian gardens are usually small, delicate and symmetrically presented.

In addition, Edoardo further illustrated the similarity between Chinese and Japanese garden, Italian and French, proving the profoundly cultural influence of China and Italy, the two great civilizations.

During the Q-A section of the lecture, Edoardo answered the questions purposed by the students in regard of the conception of Chinese horticulture, the difference between Italian and French horticulture and how the Chinese culture has influenced Italian horticulture in a humorous and inspiring way. He also encouraged everyone to work proactively to find out the beauty of horticulture, which benefited the attendees greatly.
