At the night of September 21, a special Performance for the 20th anniversary of Beijing Opera troupe of CFL was held by CFL in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Nankai University. In hall 138, gongs and drums trumped, orchestral music flowed and singers chanted as Beijing Opera was sung in NKU again.
Zou Yujie, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee of CFL, Yan Guodong, the dean of CFL, Ma Hongqi, the deputy dean, Zhang Genghui, the vice president of Nankai University Faculty Representative Committee, Song Yanping, the officer of Nankai University Retirement Management Office and other teachers and alumnus, such as Xiao Futang, Wang Jianyi, Bai Yonggeng, Tang Manqing, presented the performance.
Zou Yujie sent her enthusiastic speech towards the troupe. She looked back on its 20 years glorious history that it has, over generations, nurtured lots of NKers who are fond of Beijing Opera and has made great contribution on the inheritance of Beijing Opera, a traditional Chinese art. Due to the support from the Ministry of Education, governors in Tianjin, NKU and CFL, and the efforts made by all the actors, the troupe was able to successively take more than 100 performances in NKU and other places, to earn couples of prizes on nationally university performance level, and to start tour in nations or regions like Japan, Hongkong China, Taiwan China, etc. The Beijing Opera troupe of CLF of NKU not only demonstrates its creativity via performing Beijing Opera in English and Japanese, but also becomes the first student troupe among Chinese universities that has taken performance abroad. Theatre performance is a great tradition for NKU, while in the new era we should make more efforts to enhance students’ aesthetical competence and carry out more extracurricular activities for students to gain more confidence in our own culture. It is the high time that Beijing Opera should be accepted by schools, promoted by Tianjin, and embraced by the world.
New and old actors sang classical operas with makeup and acting or without, such as Ewha Song, Return of the Phoenix, Imperial Orchid, Mistakes in the Flower Fields, A Praise to Red Plum, Queen Dowager was Furious, Imperial Concubine Yang, Striking the King, Borrowing East Wind, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy, which excited all the fans, continuously stirring applause and cheer around the hall. Furthermore, The Story of Su San and The Red Lantern, sung in English, won fervent applause from everyone.
Mi Jinfu, the first head of the troupe and Li Xiaohui, the artistical director of the troupe had an exemplary performance with Look For A Star, which was so splendid that all the audience couldn’t stop applauding and the two came back to the stage to give the last show with The Palace of Eternal Youth.
