On the afternoon of September 10th, Summer Camp for Student Service Center of the NKU and Freiburg University started. 29 students & teachers from the Student Service Center of Freiburg University and students & teachers from the Department of German attended the opening ceremony of summer camp and Sino-German Cultural Differences Symposium in the Lecture Hall of the CFL. In the ceremony, they yielded pronounced results in a heated discussion about the language learning and cultural differences.
In the beginning of the ceremony, Wang kai, vice president of the CFL and Liu Guanlong, the director of the Department of German delivered speeches and expressed their warm welcome to students and teachers from Freiburg University. They hoped that the summer camp would be a good opportunity for the NKU and higher institutions of German to promote cooperation and exchanges and advance the mutual understanding and trust of both sides, making great contribution to the new friendship. At last, students from Freiburg University also expressed their best wish to the NKU and its 100th anniversary.
In this symposium, divided into four groups, all of them started the discussion about 8 topics concerning the disparities between China and German: family, science and technology, traditional festivals, way of entertainment, school institution, language learning and awareness of environmental protection. After the discussion, they got deeper understanding of similarities and differences between the two cultures. A further study of German religious and traditional festivals enabled them to appreciate the idiomatic usage of language and speaking style of the native speakers, while German students knew more about the Mid-autumn Festival and Spring Festival and enjoy the mystery of Chinese in a foreign land.
After the conclusion speech made by the director of the Student Service Center of Freiburg University Lin Yi, the opening ceremony came to an end. In the following schedule, they appreciated traditional Chinese art including the Beijing Opera, calligraphy, folk music and papercutting and learn the basic Chinese. Besides, they paid a visit to some places of interests such as the Ancient Culture Street and Tianjin Museum. These experiences enabled them to know more about the charm of traditional Chinese culture and local customs.
