A few days ago, Chen Jieying, an undergraduate enrolled in 2017 from Spanish Department of CFL of NKU, achieved the Excellent Award (4th rank) in the 1st “Contest of Translation and Narration of Chinese Oral Tales”. On 22nd July 2019, the awarding ceremony of the contest, one belonging to a series of activities in celebrating the Spanish Day, was held at the Cervantes Institute of Beijing. Chen, Jieying addressed her own work during the ceremony and accepted the interview.
It is known that the “Contest of Translation and Narration of Chinese Oral Tales” is a national contest about translation and writing in Spanish, organized by the Division of Education of Spain Embassy in China, Spanish and Portuguese Department of Beijing Foreign Studies University, together with Spanish periodical RevistaPuente. The contest welcomes all the Spanish learners in China to come, aiming at telling Chinese folktale in Spanish. It selected the top five stories from hundreds of scripts received from all over the country and came out a collection of works in contest, including 100 best tales in the contest. Chen chose a folktale from her hometown, then she translated it into Spanish and constantly polished it, with the help of mentor as Xiao Yin, Fu Tian, foreign teacher Rodrigo and Daniel from Spanish Department of CFL. Chen stood out from many other contestants and eventually ranked the fourth among them.
