Delegation from CFL Paid Visits to Bristol University and SOAS of London University

From June 12th to 15th, the academic visits to Bristol University and School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of London University in Britain were paid by Professor Miao Ju, the head officer of Translation Study Center of CFL in NKU and the host of a project of The National Social Science Fund of China, together with Associate Professor Wang Kai, the deputy dean and the head officer of Eastern Asia Culture Study Center of CFL.

The conferences were held among the delegation and several representatives from Bristol University respectively, who are Professor Karla Pollmann, the minister of Faulty of Art, Lady Edith Li Ross, who in charge of foreign students’ affairs in International Office and Professor Andreas Schonle, the dean of Modern Linguistics College. The discussion covered further cooperation about scientific research, the collaborative hosting of academic seminar, the implementation of exchange program among undergraduates and summer camp, the upgrade of MTI “1+1” project and the initiation of MA “1+1+1” project. Wide consensus was reached in terms of many details.

The next day, the delegation had discussion with several representatives from London University: Professor Ben Murtagh, the head of Linguistic Culture Department in SOAS, Professor Nathan W. Hill, the head of Language and Literature of Eastern Asia Department and the Director of International Office Mr. Nick Butler. The content of their negotiation included the academic communication, exchange among undergraduates, the signing of outline protocol and the foundation of MA “1+1+1” project. They reached the agreement in signing the outline protocol as soon as possible and the consensus in initiating MA dual degree program in September, 2020.

During the visit, the delegation not only saw the students of CFL in MTI “1+1” project who are currently finishing their study in Bristol University, but also the scholars and experts involved in translation study, linguistics and comparative literature in these two schools, with whom the delegation discussed the matters like short-term learning exchange, fund application, mutual research, laying a solid foundation for the further implementation of internationally teaching and research exchange within each other.

Founded in 1876, Bristol University is a famous research university in United Kingdom, earning worldwide fame for its outstanding prospective research. School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of London University was founded in 1916, regarded as the top Oriental and African Studies Center in Europe. CFL proactively devotes to the “Global Nankai” program, carrying out the international communication and cooperation about education and scientific research regardless of nation and language. An international communicating network based on Nankai University, driven by multiple forces, is gradually formed.
