Approved by the National Education Examinations Authority, Foreign Languages Test Center of the NKU was founded in 2004, whose office was in the CFL of the NKU. It mainly involved in the exam administration and organizing work. Now 7 exams with international recognition was undertaken, including IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, TestDaF, JLPT and TOPIK.
Within the 15 years since it was founded, the center served for the community on its own initiative through giving full play of regional superiority and management sophistication. With the rising of overseas studying, an increasing number of candidates from different departments of the NKU, Tianjin, Northern Part of China and even all over the nation were received by the center come to attend 7 exams. In 2018, 246 exams was organized by the center, more than 13,000 across all over the country attended 7 types of exams in the NKU. 104 IELTS ( written test and oral test ) was hold with 5933 candidates; 46 TOEFL and GRE with 2598 candidates; 90 GMAT with 1517 candidates; 2 TOPIK with 811 candidates; and 2 TestDaF with 383 candidates; 2 JLPT with 2000 candidates.
The director of the Center said, “ As the most influential exams, IELTS, TOEFL and TestDaF are not available for an increasing number of candidates. An trend happens that the supply is not adequate demand. The founding of the center is a solution for students from our school and abroad to registration hell and off-site exams as well as to its complexity, time consuming and high cost. Especially for the IELTS, students from our school take up the biggest share in Tianjin. It was known that two separate days was spend in the IELTS—one for a working day, the other for Saturday. While students need to take the oral exam on Wednesdays or Thursday and attend the written test on Saturday in another city. So the founding of the center is a solution to registration hell and off-site exams for its convenience, time saving and low cost.”In recent years, Foreign Languages Test Center of the NKU has made great contributions to serving the community as it should be.
Following the guidelines of “Safety First”, the Center adhered to the bottom-line thinking to strengthen the safety consciousness, secrecy consciousness, responsibility and ensure that exams run successfully. Owing to the safe, highly efficient and quality services that it provided for the students home and abroad, the center gained nation-wide credit and was highly praised by the National Education Examinations Authority, American ETS, British Council and National Institution for the International Education in Korea. Back to 2017, JLPT and TOPIK testing sites was awarded as Good National Examination Sites standing out from 73 and 39 sites.
In 2008, TOPIK testing site was heralded again as Good National Examination Site and highly praised by the Ministry of Education, the South Korean Embassy in China and the National Education Examinations Authority. IELTS was selected as one example to observe and study. In the same year, the center was granted a title Best Service Award. In 2019, Cui Guiqing, the director of the center, was chosen as “ The Star of Safe and efficient Testing Arrangement”. With a 100 % success rate, TOPIK testing sites was praised by the National Education Examinations Authority and received many students from Fudan University and other schools.
