On the afternoon of May 30th, Professor Zhang Zheng visited CFL and gave a lecture in the 111 Lecture Hall. Prof. Zhang is the PhD supervisor and director of the Institute of Comparative Culture and Translation in Beijing Normal university. The lecture was presided over prof. Miao Ju and attended by Xu Jianzhong from
the School of Foreign Languages of Tianjin University of Technology. The title of the lecture was “Digital Humanities: A New Paradigm of Translation Studies”, which consisted of four parts: the relationship between mathematics and linguistics and translation studies, the cross-characteristics of digital humanities, the digital method in translation studies, and the prospects of digital humanities.
Prof. Zhang systematically elaborated on the following points: the differences and connections between mathematics and linguistics, the concept of digital humanities and its application in language and linguistics, statistics in translation studies, and other digital methods like visualization map. He also added that digital humanities and translation studies could complement and promote each other.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Zhang Zheng enthusiastically answered the questions raised by the students about corpus research and machine translation. The lecture ended with enthusiastic applause from the classmates.
