Exchanges Program to Taiwan “Cross-strait multilingual Communication--Foreign Languages Teaching Camp in the NKU” Undertaken by Ministry of Education

In these days, being the first full-paid exchanges program towards Taiwan applied by a teacher from Taiwan,  “Cross-strait multilingual Communication--Foreign Languages Teaching Camp in the NKU” was initiated in the NKU. More than 40 teachers and students from Fu Jen Catholic University, Tamkang University and National Chengchi University paid a visit to the NKU. They experienced the latest achievements resulting from the foreign languages teaching and the opening up in Tianjin after attending the academic lectures, forums among teachers and students, and exploring the history of Tianjin.

In this camp, Pro. Lai Zhennan, president of the Department of Foreign Languages at the Fu Jen Catholic University, delivered a lecture “Made to Stick and Translation of the International Medical Services”, which focused on the translation of the International Medical Services. Themed with “The Discipline Development and Trend of the Translation Institute in Taiwan, Pro. Yang Chengshu believed that more talents should be produced to serve for the economic and social development. Lin Shengbin, vice professor and former dean of the Department of Spanish Language and Literature at the Tamkang University of Taiwan, made a comparison of “Universe” and “World” between the two authors in the topic “ ‘The world’ is different?—On Jorge Luis Borges’s Philosophy of ‘Universe’ and Chuang Tzu’s Philosophy of ‘World’”. Described in a plainly stated way, the inspiring lectures aroused their interests of studying foreign languages and deepened the understanding of the study of foreign languages and literature across the straits.

Teachers and students of Taiwan later paid a visit to Balitai Campus and Jinan Campus, Afterwards, they witnessed the great changes of Tianjin after making a city tour of Tianjin Museum, Italian Custom area, Ancient Culture Street and Huangyaguan Great Wall. While walking along the street, they enjoyed the dishes and traditional crosstalk show and explored the original culture of Tianjin. All of them said that compatriots from both sides of the straits shared the origin. From the evidence of the profound culture and warm-hearted people in Tianjin, it was showed that reform and opening-up brought great changes to the mainland.

Liu Ziyu, director of the program and a Taiwan teacher in the Department of Spanish, believed that it provided a platform for teachers and students to communicate and develop friendship based on the latest results of both schools from foreign languages teaching. Meanwhile, he expressed sincere gratitude to the support given by Affaires Office of Taiwan under the Ministry of Education and Macaw and Affaires Office of Taiwan under the administration of Tianjin Government, and hopes to work together to make the activity to become a brand for exchanges programs.

It was said that as one of the exchanges programs towards Taiwan in 2019 in the NKU undertaken by Ministry of Education, the program was organized by the CFL and got the support of Ministry of Education and Taiwan Affairs Office in Tianjin.
