Mr. Nakamura, Honorary Professor of Hiroshima University, was invited to give a lecture in our college. The lecture “An Interesting insight of the Edo Period Thoughts with Ogyū Sorai’s Philosophy at Its Center” was held in 139 Room and hosted by Yu Jun, a teacher from our Japanese Department. Our deputy dean Wang Kai delivered a welcome speech and professor Han Lihong from the Japanese Department made a concluding speech. The lecture was attended by more than 30 teachers and students from the Japanese Department as well as the Japan Research Institute.
At the very beginning of the lecture, Mr. Wang extended his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to Mr. Nakamura for his arrival in NKU for a lecture. Then Mr. Nakamura made a humorous self-introduction in fluent Chinese. The whole lecture presented in a systematic and logic way was both interesting and attractive. In the Q&A session, the questions brought up by the audience were answered by Mr. Nakamura one by one.
The slogan “learning is the most elegant thing” in Hiroshima University was well displayed in this lecture, through which we got to know how Japanese scholars in the Edo period studied Confucianism and had an interesting insight of the Edo period thoughts. More importantly, we can learn a lot from Mr. Nakamura’s enthusiasm and pursuit in academic research.
It is our college's slogan that learning a foreign language well will open a new window to the world. With this slogan kept in mind all the time, our students have worked hard to improve what they are learning so that they can employ the language as a key to open to the door behind which there are various puzzles and continue to explore the history and culture behind languages. Moreover, our college has invited many foreign scholars to give lectures in our college, which can not only enrich our students’ school life but help them to know more about academic research.
