The second teaching workshop for all the undergraduates in NKU was held by our college on the eighteenth day of April. It invited Wang Zhe, senior course consultant of MOOC of Chinese Universities as well as vice president of the Sunflower Online Education Research Center, to give a report on “How to Achieve Knowledge Interpretation and Expression in SPOC (Small and Private Online Course)” during the workshop. Mr. Wang explored with the teachers present a totally new form of learning involved both online and offline teaching supported by the Internet platforms.
Professor Zhou Shen, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of NKU, attended the workshop and delivered a speech. He recognized the philology of our college in the reform of teaching for the undergraduates, saying that our college was a good example in fully implementing the guiding principles of the meeting about talent cultivating and undergraduate education by the Party Central Committee and the Ministry of Education. In addition, he offered some instructive suggestions on our college’s further undergraduate teaching and reform.
Wang Kai, deputy dean of our school, presided over the workshop and summarized in the final part “if we compare the SPOC performing to that of a film making, we find that our students are actors on the stage while our professors act as “playwrights and directors”, therefore, the college will do its best to work as a responsible stage manager to support them through the technology and information exchange platforms.”
The workshop has attracted not only packed teachers from our own college but also those from other colleges like the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The teachers gathered together to talk about SPOC with the characteristics of their own disciplines taken into account. The workshop was ended in heated discussions and has achieved its projected targets.
