On April 13th, the inauguration ceremony of the Alumni Association Beijing Branch of the College of Foreign Languages (CFL) was held in Beijing. Present at the ceremony were a large group of prominent alumni like Lv Congmin, who was admitted into Nankai University to study English in 1958, once was a senior diplomat of China, and now is the honorary president of the Alumni Association of our college, Wang Lili, who was admitted into Nankai University (NKU) to study English in 1972, former vice president of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and Zhaowei, president of the Alumni Association of CFL. More than 70 representatives of our alumni in Beijing participated in this ceremony, which was also attended by some staff from our college.
Zhang Fang, executive secretary of the Beijing Alumni Association of NKU and secretary of the Beijing EMBA Alumni Association of NKU came to the ceremony and expressed his heartfelt congratulations, together with Fan Xihe, president of the Alumni Association Tianjin Branch of CFL, Baili, president of the Jiangsu Branch, and Zheng Yaoyao, executive president of the Hebei Branch. Moreover, letters of congratulations came from different corners in this world like China, the US, Japan, France, etc.
Gao Tianming, secretary of the Beijing Alumni Association of NKU, presided over the ceremony, at the beginning of which all rose to sing our school song. Zou Yujie, on behalf of our college, delivered a speech and expressed her sincere congratulations to the establishment of the Alumni Association Beijing Branch of CFL. She continued to say that “CFL is well-known for its long and profound history, in which it has contributed a lot to the cultivation of generations of outstanding alumni. The Beijing Branch will serve as an important platform for our alumni to interact, communicate, and share resources. In the future, our college will go all out to support its work and provide more help. And the College of Foreign Languages is all the alumni’s ‘family’!” She also expressed her hope that all our alumni would continue to move forward to create a much brighter future for our NKU and our CFL.
Lv Congmin presented his speech on behalf of the Alumni Association, saying that all the alumni are the blood of NKU and should always pace with her. He pointed out that the reason why the speech delivered by Xi Jinping in his visit to NKU had been so inspiring and aroused so much discussion was that, in the recognizing of NKU Spirits, he proudly and precisely clarified the principles of our country’s education and further raised the guiding principles and specific measures to develop our school education in such a new era.
He further said that it was our mission to inherit and spread the NKU Spirits as her alumni, that only by well learning and understanding president Xi’s speech would we carry out this mission as expected, and that the alumni association should perform its functions as bridge, bond, platform and window to shoulder its responsibilities in the future. He believed that with the NKU Beijing Alumni Association as an example, the Beijing Branch would develop smoothly, Steadily and innovatively, striving to be a successful example and brand of the Alumni Association of CFL.
The ceremony reviewed and approved the Regulations of Alumni Association Beijing Branch of the College of Foreign Languages, NKU and the staff list of various departments of the Beijing Branch. President Zhao Wei officially announced the establishment of Beijing Branch, which was awarded the banner by Zhao and Zou. The newly-appointed presidents Xu Chaoyou and Chen Xiaoyu received the banner. Xu, who was admitted into our college for English study, delivered his speechs over the work plan of 2019. He said that Beijing branch is a big “family” for every alumnus in Beijing and it would take multiple measures to assemble the alumni resources in Beijing, strengthen the tie among us, and enhance friendly interactions to help stimulate the development of NKU. in the coming days of 2019, we will try our best to serve the centenary anniversary.
Zhou Xuanjin, alumnus of NKU as well as the former deputy director of the State Press and Publication Administration, donated his own publications to our college history room.
