The Delegation of Nankai University paid a visit to Germany

On the occasion when NKU’s 100th birthday is approaching, the inauguration ceremony of the Alumni Association in Germany & the First Meeting of Representatives in German was held in Frankfurt at 10:30 am (local time) on April 6th, 2019. Present at the ceremony and meeting were Prof. Zhu Guanglei, vice president of NKU, Prof. Yan Guodong, dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Prof. Sun Tao, dean of Zhou Enlai School of Government and another two. The meeting has approved The Regulations on the Alumni Association in Germany of NKU and the measures to well organize it. In addition, it selected Wang Yiye as the first president of the Alumni Association in Germany, who was admitted into Tianjin Nankai High School in 1985. Then Prof. Zhu Guanglei awarded the banner to Mr. Wang and declared the inauguration ceremony. In his report of the development of NKU and of the arrangements in its centenary anniversary to the alumni, he stated that Nankai had attached great importance to alumni contact overseas in the last years and praised the concern and support from the alumni in Germany, who had done a lot to the establishment of the Alumni Association in Germany. He further expressed his hope that all the alumni in Germany could pay attention to the development of NKU, spare some time to return to their alma mater and continue to work hard for the glory the NKU.

After the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Zhu, accompanied by the alumni, visited the Chinese Consulate General in Frankfurt and exchanged in-depth views with the Han Dongsheng and Xiu Chunmin, Counselors for Education and Culture. They discussed what NKU and the Embassy and Consulate in Germany should do to develop the Alumni Association in Germany in pursuit of multi-direction services and to strengthen cooperations in international academic exchange, talent training and recruitment.

Having concluded the visit to Frankfurt, the delegation paid a visit to the University of Munich on April 9th, 2019 (local time). A meeting was held in the Foreign Exchange Center in the main campus of this university, present at which were its vice principal, the famous sinologist Prof. Ye Fan, the director of its German Department of Foreign Languages Prof. Springer and one staff of this center Dr. Döring on behalf of the University of Munich.

At the very beginning, Prof. Ye expressed his warm welcome and thanks to the visit of our delegation and introduced the University of Munich, followed which was the introduction of NKU and its discipline construction by Prof. Zhu. Prof. Yan emphasized that it was also of great importance to promoting summer school projects and faculty training exchanges between the two schools in future cooperation. Both sides agreed on this point and showed their determination as well as the confidence to enhance student exchanges, teacher visits as well as academic communication. In addition, Dr. Matthias Springer introduced the exchanges and cooperations between the German Department of Foreign Languages and China. He stated that a large number of master students in their German Department came from China’s universities, thus it would contribute to the development of their department if more exchanges aimed at undergraduates were conducted in advance. He further expressed his willingness to elaborate on the details of the cooperation with NKU.
