On March 28th, to celebrate the 200 days countdown of the 100th anniversary, together with the seventh and eighth grades from the Rixin International School, the whole graduates members 2018 of the first branch of Party in the CFL gathered at Yan Zhang Memorial Park. Themed with “Review the Centenary School History and Nankai’s Commitment”, the opening ceremony of the introduction to the centenary characters in bilateral languages was started. The introduction to the school history and the visit to the theme exhibition of the NKU centenary history would spur the introspection of the students by the educational principle and ideology of the school founder Yan Xiu. Under the guidance of the school motto “ dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability and aspiration for daily progress“, the students would be inspired to embrace the commitment to the nation and the people and strengthen their capacity to serve the society as a gift to the 100th anniversary of the NKU.
Three times of unforgettable “encounter”
The first “encounter”--The students “encountered”the centenary characters of the NKU. The translation team of the CFL employedd the translated work to relate the patriotic deeds and scientific research achievements of Yu Fangzhou, Guo Yonghuai, He Binglin, Chen Ruyu, Li Zhengming and Zhou Qilin. The new approach passed the motto down to next generations and inspired their ambition to serve the nation.
Taking advantage of the major strength, the team spent more than month to complete the first version after over 10 times of “seminars for the difficulties of the translation” and several revisions and even throwing away the original version. Finally it took about 3 months to complete the third version. The final version is about to complete and be bounded into a book before the summer vacation. During the progress of the translation, Yang Airan, a party member of the graduates 2018, said,”the history of the NKU is a history of struggling, which is of pride. As a NKer, we should inherit and develop the glorious traditions which characterize patriotism.
The second “encounter”--The middle school students from the Rixin International School “encountered” the centenary characters of the NKU. Qiu Danni, Li Zhongshan and Hu Mengyuhe, the team representatives of introducing the school history introduced the deeds of those characters and the history of the revolutionary spots to more than 180 students of the seventh and eighth grades from the Rixin International school.
They paid a visit to the Statue of Mr. Zhang Boling (prsident of the school) and Mr. Yan Fansun (the founder of the school), the Statue of Zhou Enlai (premier of the New China), the School Bell and the Monument of the Southwest United University. They appreciated the lofty ambition of the two founders, the great deeds devoted by the Premier Zhou. Some students believed that the introduction and visit to the school is contributed to a better understanding of the spirit of the NKU. They said,”three questions about patriotism posed by Zhang Boling recalled everyone of the persistent commitment to the nation rooted in NKU. Therefore, our answer would always be the same: we are Chinese; we love China; we hope China sound development.”
The third “encounter”--The students of the NKU “encountered”the students of the Rixin International School. Sufferings and hardships in the eventful years would never be forgot. The team took the responsibility to give a detailed introduction of the school history and answer the questions asked by the middle school students. As a consequence, with pride welling up in their heart, they had a better understanding of the spirit, traditions and culture of the NKU. A member of the team Qiu Danni said,” it was a good opportunity to share the NKU stories to them. At the sight of the curious eyes in the lovely faces, I think it a pleasure and meaningful to make the introduction.”
Tang Guoming, the eighth grades student of the Rixin, said, “to spread the spirit of the NKU requires us to do more. Every student feels proud of the NKU. Though we are not old enough to thoroughly understand the spirit, the countless introduction is a carrier for us to acquire some key points of it. We have planted the flame of spirit into our heart. The school motto ‘dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability and aspiration for daily progress’ was full of so much vigor and vitality.”
Two times of overwhelming feelings
In respect of Zhang Boling, the representatives of the middle school stood with head bowed and laid flowers in an orderly way to pay tribute to the great life of him. Afterwards, the song I and My Motherland drifted from near. “I and my motherland, we never part for a minute. Whenever I go, there comes an anthem.”Accompanied y the melodious music of violin, the song with a clear rhythm aroused their sentiments to join the chorus. With pride, students and teachers voiced their wishes to the great nation.
Then Cheng Hang, a member of the team, guided the students to pay a visit to “the theme exhibition of the NKU centenary history” and gave a minute account of the exhibition. Reviewing President Xi’important instructions guided the NKers to forge ahead and take the responsibility. Then the student representatives of the seventh grade read the “Ode to Our Motherland”with an excited tone to express their love to the nation. In the end of the visit, they were still unwilling to leave school for their overwhelming excitement.
The solemn pledge
On January 17th, President Xi Jinping made an inspection to the NKU, paid a visit to the the theme exhibition of the NKU centenary history, the department of Chemistry and Major National Laboratory Element Organic Chemistry and communicated with representatives of students and teachers. President Xi Jinping said to them,”patriotism represents as the soul of the nation.”The NKU was originally run to cultivate a pool of talents for the rising of the nation. Nowadays, as we were in a age when the nation was becoming rich and stronger, we should combine our individual ambition with the national rejuvenation. Only striving for the public interest while pursuing the individual dream can one’s mind is as vast and high as the sea and mountain. He also hope that the new NKer made their own contributions to the NKU step by step.
The students and teachers were inspired by the instructions. Thus, the students of the CFL pledged in the opening ceremony to “put their strength of foreign language into full play, focus on humanity, develop the international view, commit to the nation and stick to Nankai characteristics“ under the instruction of president Xi Jinping. Moreover, they pledged to qualified themselves for the reform and the “One Belt and One Road”initiative to make their contributions to the national rejuvenation.
It was reported that the translation and introduction team received a lot of support from the Publicity Department of the NKU Party Committee and the Research Office of the NKU history. In the opening ceremony, some lectures were made by Xiao Guangwen, deputy minister of the Publicity Department of the NKU Party Committee and director of the Research Office of the NKU history, Er Jie, assistant of the president of the Rixin International School and Zou Yujie, secretary of the CFL Party committee in the NKU. They expressed their anticipation for the student and inspired the team to speed up the translation and the introduction. By doing so, the spirit of the NKU would be passed down to the younger students. The ceremony was after all a gift to the 100th anniversary of the NKU.
