Du Dongman gave a lecture on “Examples and Analysis of Intercultural Communication in Spanish Language Teaching. The whole faculty and students attended the lecture.
In the lecture, from many examples of intercultural communication, Du Dongman laid emphasis on the difficulties in communicative activities because of the discrepancies in culture. Factors such as language skills, communicative competence, cultural distance were to shape the sociocultural adaption. However, the way to obstacle is to learn different cultures, correspond to the pressure and recognize social identity.
Du Dongman mentioned the misunderstanding in Sino-Western exchanges which should be attributed to the discrepancies in culture. The lecture demonstrated many aspects of the differences between Chinese and western cultures ranging from the cultural conflict to the ambiguity of languages and solutions to the cultural conflict.
The lecture was very interesting and lively with clear and concise graphs, pictures and videos. All in all, apart from acquiring the knowledge of languages, teachers and students were also aware that studying the culture and internalizing it were essential to acquire a language.
