On March 6th, a group of staff from our college visited Peking University (PKU) and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) for a research on their personnel. This group is composed of Yan Guodong, dean of our college, Jiao Yanting, deputy dean and Jiang Jinhong, deputy director of personnel office. Their aim was to know more about how these two schools had been training their PhD candidates and PhD supervisors in non-common languages as well as to discuss some other affairs like how to train those who teach German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Present in the discussion were Ning Qi, dean of PKU’s Foreign Language College, Wu Jiewei, deputy dean, Fan Ye, head of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Wang Siyang, deputy dean of the Department of French, etc. They talked about the overall picture of PhD supervisors and PhD students in the departments of Spanish and Portuguese, Arabic and French. they further discussed how to carry out the building of personnel and talents in those newly-established disciplines as well the titles evaluation of the teachers. Both sides showed their strong wishes to strengthen exchanges and communication in future to build first-class disciplines together. After the discussion our staff visited the teachers’ workshops and the electronic reading rooms of PKU’s Foreign Language College. A group of staff from BFSU joined the meeting and discussed quite a lot of affairs with our staff. They also expressed their strong desire to exchange views with us in the future.
