On January 17th, president Xi paid a visit to NKU. In the speech he delivered to NKU teachers and students he emphasized that only by connecting ourselves with the fate of China can we pursue greater goals and meet higher standards. Since then our department has taken a variety of initiatives to study and implement what president Xi had expressed in the visit.
The first initiative is to highlight the spirits of NKU and promote the main theme of striving for and serving our country. On February 18th, our college held a formal meeting & the gathering of all classes and the Youth League to study and implement the main spirits in president Xi’s speech. All full-time and part-time cadres of the Youth League and those concerned have attended these two meetings. In the meeting, the main points of president Xi’s speech as well as his instructions in the visit were well summarized and thoroughly introduced. Guo Weijing, a senior from Japanese department and instructor of the national flag guard of NKU, shared his feelings at the meeting. He said, “I was waiting in front of the State Key Laboratory of Element-organic Chemistry, at the very sight of president Xi, I was seized with shock and thrill. President Xi amiably talked and shook hands with us. The moment I held his hands, a surge of warmth and power. In the future I will bear in mind what president Xi has said and study much harder.”
The second initiative is to create NKU’s own characteristics with full participation of the Youth League in every respect. The Youth League and its groups are encouraged to organize various activities. After president Xi’s visit our college has organized over 60 activities and events under the guidance of the Youth League, which has put the spirits into specific actions and contributed to the creation of a good atmosphere where all are enthusiastic to learn more about the theories of the Youth League.
The third initiative is that a section called “China Voice” has been set up with the support of our college’s new media platform. This section will organize and translate the policies of our political parties and the political reviews and commentaries, aiming to provide an appropriate channel for all the students learn more about what’s happening at home and abroad, as well as English related with the parties and politics. Taking the second party branch of 2018 masters as an example, its members collected, organized and translated the materials related to the visit and speech of president Xi in NKU, which were then published in the “China Voice” section in our college’s WeChat public account. The online section “To Explore and Learn” works together with the regular offline discussion meeting to make all the student party members have a deep understanding of the spirits and significance of Xi’s speech. Our college’s online and offline activities will continue our efforts in explaining and promoting the essential spirits in Xi’s speech and endeavor to create a better atmosphere of learning.
The fourth initiative is to tell the stories of NKU well and promote the publicity and education of its centenary history. Our college is compiling the three volumes and translating them into English under the instructions of many professors. Our work is to tell stories of NKU through translation and educate and cultivate people with the spirits and souls of NKU. Our next goal is to make all the volumes audible to the audience. We are to further explore the history of NKU, translate the Education Readings of NKU History and tell the stories of many typical spots and train a group of students to publicize the history of NKU. In addition, many teachers and students recorded our school song in multiple languages such as English, French, Japanese and so on, which has been officially issued by our school new media. This school song will carry the spirits of NKU to the alumni in every corner around the world.
As NKU’s centennial anniversary is approaching, our college has organized lots of activities themed “witness of the reform and opening up—a hundred lectures by the alumni to the hundredth birthday of our NKU”. About one hundred alumni will be invited to give lectures and hold exhibitions of paintings, photography, badges and so on, which will show NKUers knowledge about China and their service for reviving China. All of this will help educate the next generations of students.
The last initiative is to fulfill the tasks and accomplish the missions of our times. Our college has organized a group of cadres of the Youth League and many classes to explore the places that president Xi had visited in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
They carried out filed research in Binhai New Area Planning Exhibition Hall, the Former Residence of Liang Qichao, Xiongan New Area, Suburbs of Beijing and so on. Moreover, they clarified the roles that these three places should play to stimulate their integrated development based on their own characteristics. They further explored what NKU should do to integrate itself into the development of the above-mentioned three places.
During the past winter vacation, 166 students of our college participated in going back to alma mater and introducing our NKU. They even went to many school in rural areas like Gansu and Jiangxi. The sophomore Du Guangyu introduced his visit to the Municipal Group in Qinghai West Coast New Area, in which he introduced NKU’s motto, spirits and traditions. He said, “I hope what I did will contribute to the spread of NKU’s spirits and inspire more and more people. This is a good opportunity for me to turn my patriotic enthusiasm into the efforts to serve our country. This is also what NKUers should do to all people.
