Recently, Professor Vladimir Karasik, professor at the Pushkin Language Institute in Moscow, doctoral tutor, famous Russian linguist, representative of the language and culture school, and founder of the Russian emerging school “Value Linguistics”, , is a guest at Nankai University and gave a lecture entitled Current Issues in Language and Culture in the Liangzheng Hall of the College of Foreign Languages.
Professor Karasik first introduced the concept of language culture, which is to analyze the similarity and differences between social traditions, social customs, residents' living habits, ways, methods and perspectives of different countries from the perspective of linguistics. . At the same time, the commonality and difference of people's understanding of the same objective existence and concept in different cultural backgrounds are also studied. He pointed out that idea (концепт) is the core word in the language and culture, and explained three branches under the definition of concept through various vivid and interesting examples: concept (понятие), image (образ) and value (ценность ), further explaining the different types of concepts. He believes that specific situations can help understand abstract concepts. In the lecture, he also listed the cultural differences in different countries to deepen the understanding of the students.
After the lecture, Professor Karasik interacted with the teachers and students and made patient and meticulous answers to students’ questions.
