On November 15,Xie Guoyi,the Italian Ambassador to China, visited Nankai University accompanied by Meng Feixuan, the Cultural Counselor of the Italian Embassy in China,DeMarui, the Minister Counsellor of the Italian Embassy in China and the Head of the Economic and Commercial Division, and Federico • Antonelli, the Legal Counselor of the Italian Embassy in China. Cao Xuetao, the president of Nankai University, met them at the Balitai Campus. The two sides exchanged views on further supporting the construction of the Italian major in Nankai University, cultivating international talents, strengthening cooperation between Nankai University and Italian science and education, and promoting Sino-Italian relations in the new era.
During the visit, Xie Guoyi presented a Chinese translation of the Constitution of the Republic of Italy to Nankai University which is currently in force. This is the first time the book has appeared in public. According to reports, the constitutional version was published by the Senate of the Republic of Italy, and newly revised the legal relationship between Italy and the European Union. Federico Antonelli, the Counselor of the Italian Embassy in China and Professor of the Third University of Rome and Chen Han, Associate Professor of China University of Political Science and Law are the translators of this version. Coincidentally, the idea of publishing the constitutional version occurred to the former Italian Senate Petero Grassoa during a trip in Tianjin. At present, the book is being archived and will be placed in the school museum for the whole school to visit.
Cao Xuetao presented a "Nankai Gift" to Xie Guoyi, which is a collection of Civilization Dialogue written by Fan Zeng, a contemporary Chinese famous painter and poet, the receiver of the medal of the general of the Republic of Italy, and a tenured professor of Nankai University. The cover of the book is Michelangelo, one of the "Italian Renaissance Three Masters".
After the meeting, Xie Guoyi gave a speech entitled " To the 50th Anniversary of China-Italy Relations " to more than 100 teachers and students.
According to reports, the exchanges and cooperation between Nankai University and Italy can be traced back to the 1980s. Today, Nankai University maintains close contacts with the University of Rome, the University of Bologna and many other famous Italian universities, and many important politicians including Romano Prodi, the former president of the European Commission, the former Prime Minister of Italy and the honorary professor of Nankai University, carrying out multi-field and multi-level international exchange and cooperation. In 2017, Nankai University opened its Italian major and was the first in a comprehensive university in China.
The event was one of the activities of Nankai University to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The heads of the College of Foreign Languages and International Academic Exchange attended the event.
