The heads of party and government of the college reported from the aspects of party building, organizational structure, discipline construction, education and teaching, three-round education, development planning, scientific research management, international cooperation, teacher construction and development problems. The key teachers at the meeting spoke in succession, and made suggestions on the education reform, student work, interdisciplinary, talent introduction, teacher development, international exchange and cooperation, and management mechanism construction.
Cao Xuetao listened carefully to the report and fully affirmed the current work philosophy, working methods and teaching and research achievements of the College of Foreign Languages, and proposed guiding plans for the development orientation and goals of the college, the characteristics and advantages of running a college, and pointed out the orientation of next step.
Cao Xuetao pointed out that to create a world-top-class university, internationalization is the only way. The College of Foreign Languages as a comprehensive college should give full play to its advantages in terms of foreign exchanges and cooperation, international talent training, etc., and closely integrate and form a synergy between self-construction and the support of the “double first-class” construction and promotion of internationalization strategies, further contribute ideas, planning work, and positive behavior.
Cao Xuetao put forward four requirements for the future development of the College of Foreign Languages. First, we must uphold and strengthen the party's overall leadership. It is necessary to grasp the characteristics of the high degree of internationalization and the active thinking of teachers and students of the College of Foreign Languages, and constantly do a good job in grassroots party building and ideological and political work. The second is to inherit the tradition of the foreign academy and highlight the professional features. The College of Foreign Languages has a long history and complete professionalism. It is necessary to condense the distinctive features from the traditions of Nankai and the college, and deeply explore the vitality of “fine and special” in the construction of disciplines. The third is to innovate the development model and build an international brand. We must continue to pay attention to major strategies and major needs in the country's reform and development, and deepen the service of the “Belt and Road”; further integrate the resources inside and outside the university from a development perspective, flexibly innovate management systems and international talent training models, and actively promote “double-first-class building. The fourth is to gather first-class talents and optimize the layout of disciplines. From the strategic height of optimizing the layout of disciplines, systematically look at talent introduction, build a broad platform for teaching and research-oriented talents, actively plan, and actively participate in the specialization of Nankai University and the construction of characteristic chemistry groups.
