On September 25th, the welcome meeting for 2018 students of the College of Foreign Languages of Nankai University was held in Tian Jiabing Concert Hall. More than 50 teachers including the party leaders of the College, department leaders, doctoral tutors, foreign teachers, and alumni representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Li Na, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and vice president. A total of 451 students participated.
At the meeting, Prof. Yan Guodong, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and a doctoral tutor, expressed his congratulations and welcome to all the new students. He introduced the details of the setting, faculty, and internationalized development of the foreign language discipline. He also gave a comprehensive explanation to the 20-word talent training goal of “foreign language expertise, humanistic literacy, international vision, Chinese sentiment, and Nankai characteristics”, encouraging students to establish the goal of life early based on professionalism and rich knowledge, and establish a sense of knowing China and serving China by adhering to the Nankai school motto of “Dedication to public interest , Acquisition of all-around capacity , aspiration for progress with each passing day” and the spirit of “Keeping the public good in mind, respecting the profession”, making themselves into professional foreign languages talents in a few years.

And we will lead you learn to be a good person, get along, and cooperate besides professional learning. said Wang Xinxin as representative for teachers, who is a doctoral tutor from the Japanese department, the advanced individual of Tianjin and the winner of Nankai University's sixth good teacher and friend award. She began to talk from her personal understanding of the profession and shared the changes in the requirements of foreign language talents with the development of the times. She encouraged new students to strive to become foreign language professionals in a new era with solid foundation, wide knowledge, and high competitiveness.
Mr. Liang Zhongqi, Senior Manager of China Silk Road Fund Co., Ltd. and a graduate of the 2012 Russian Language of Nankai University, was invited as a representative of the alumni. Mr. Liang Zhongqi shared his experience when he studied Russia in Nankai, emphasizing the importance of a good profession and the importance of combining professional skills with serving for the “Belt and Road” and for the development of the country; Mr. Liang. who acted as a senior manager of Silk Road Fund Co., Ltd. from June 2018, has been in contact with the “Silk Road” construction and international cooperation for many years. He shared with the freshmen the valuable experience of being a Russian interpreter in important meetings, and suggested that the freshmen strive to improve their professionalism and gain a broad knowledge, especially in the new technology and new fields, to increase the breadth of future roads and horizons.
Gedai Yunqing, a graduate representative, a national scholarship recipient, and a student of the 2016 Russian language and literature major, introduced her colorful life in Nankai. She has been working hard to improve her ability since she entered Nankai University. After graduation, she decided to teach students in Xinjiang and has participated in many national-level projects after her return. She encouraged freshmen to courageously challenge themselves during their studies, dare to face the future, and live their most colorful life in Nankai.
It was worth mentioning that the first Miss CFL winner and the 2015 German-language undergraduate Zhou Yiyang gave a speech in English at the welcome meeting, expressing her hope that the new students can make themselves excellent multi-language talents without being limited by their own professions.
Yan Tianxi, the freshman representative and 2018 English major undergraduate expressed his joy when he entered Nankai University for the first time in his own unique and poetic language, calling on all the freshmen to forge ahead and aspire to become the talents for communication between China and foreign countries.
