In order to further stimulate the enthusiasm of tutors, improve their work quality, and better make use of professional teachers’ roles in student cultivation, on June 13th, College of Foreign Languages held a seminar with tutors of the 2017 year. Party committee secretary of college, Zou Yujie, deputy party committee secretary and deputy director Li Na, dean assistant Wang Kai, tutors of the 2017 year and tutors in professional classes attended the seminar.
At the seminar, Liu Ruiyi, tutor of the 2017 year undergraduate of the college, first introduced the overall situation of undergraduates. Next, the participating tutors conducted in-depth exchanges and shared their work experience on the students’ current learning situation, mental status, career planning, and promotion of the quality of “care about public interest”. They talked about the undergraduate freshman cultivation mechanism to cultivate them as “fully-developed in three ways” students.
It is vital to ensure student-centered strategy and strive to ensure that every student has a fair and quality education. This requires educators to truly pay attention to the different qualities of each student and strive to promote the overall growth of each student. Hui Chunping, a tutor of the Class 1 of 2017 year, believes that class tutors should get familiar with each student in class, from name to their unique experience, so that students can feel the intimacy and being valued. The Italian class tutor Yang Lin shared her experience in understanding the student's personality through the student's classroom performance and providing targeted instruction to the students' academy and life. Liu Yu. Liu Yu, a tutor of Translation Class 2 pays attention to cultivating the common hobbies with the students, and draws distances with the students by reading classic books and watching classic movies together.
Class tutor is the first professional teacher contacted by new students after entering the school. They shoulder the sacred mission of guiding students to establish a correct world view, life view, the view of value, and comprehensively enhance students' ideological character and overall quality. With the help of professional class, teachers can consciously cultivate students’ social morality, professional ethics, and personal morality. Jiang Min, a class tutor of general Russian, combined with her 18 years of working experience as a class tutor, proposed to use peer models to guide students in their studies. Through sharing previous outstanding graduates, students' learning motivation and academic integrity awareness are improved. Wang Caixia, a tutor of French-program class, believes that direct dialogue with students should be strengthened both inside and outside the classroom, so that students' temperament could be cultivated from the inside out, and students' awareness of responsibility could be enhanced.
The class tutors who participated in the seminar also shared their own stratification and classification strategy to promote the diversification of the learning forms, and useful experience in promoting the individualized growth of students.
Wang Kai affirmed the hard work of the class tutors. He pointed out that the current large-scale recruitment, professional diversion and reform of the trans-major system have also brought new challenges to discipline construction and future development. The college's discipline construction and student cultivation require class tutors to participate in the students’ cultivation work.
Zou Yujie, on behalf of the college, thanked the class tutors for their sincere commitment to the students. She shared her happy moment as a teacher, emphasizing that teachers should not only value the tangible results, but also pay attention to the intangible effects and integrate socialist core values into the entire process of education. Doing a good job as a class tutor is a practical guarantee for the all-round education mechanism for all students, which is conducive to further deepening education reform and improving the quality of higher education personnel cultivation.
