Prof. Miao Ju of College of Foreign Languages in the Nankai University Gave lecture at the University of Vienna, Austria

To implement exchanges and cooperation in teaching and scientific research between Nankai University and the University of Vienna, Prof. Miao Ju of College of Foreign Languages was invited by Vice President of the University of Vienna, Heinz-Fassmann to give lectures at the Translation Research Center from March to May 2018. The theme is “The Cultural Mission of Translation”.

Professor Miao Ju’s lectures received active participation and praise from the graduate students of the University of Vienna. This lecture has realized the sharing of the cultural ideas, translation practices, and innovative ideas of the East and West, and jointly established an academic forum for cultural exchanges between the East and the West.

The realization of this lecture exchange was supported and recommended by the academician of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Professor Gerhard-Budding, the initiator of the teaching and research exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. Professor Buding talked with Professor Miao Ju in his busy schedule and expressed concern and support for the progress of scientific research projects in cooperation. He fully affirmed the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.

After the lecture, the director of the International Exchange Office of the University of Vienna and related members met with Professor Miao Ju, delivered cordial greetings and exchanged the desire to improve cooperation. In order to explore the content of international exchanges, Professor Miao Ju initiated a new exchange and cooperation relationship with the head of the Department of Sinology at the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna, the former vice president of the University of Vienna, and the Western sinologist Susan Weigel.

Founded in 1365, the University of Vienna is the oldest surviving German university and the largest university in Central Europe. It currently has more than 110 majors and more than 100,000 students. This academic hall has nurtured 27 Nobel Prize winners. It is an academic research center prosperous in Central Europe and the Danube region. It is known as the European scientific Mecca and is the cradle of cultivating elites and giants.
