On April 19th, the thirteenth Chinese universities Portuguese poetry recitation competition, jointly organized by the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the Higher Education Auxiliary Office of the Macau Special Administrative Region, came to an end. Thirty Portuguese major students from Macau Polytechnic University, University of Macau, St. Joseph University, Macau University of Science and Technology, Nankai University, Peking University, Beijing Foreign Languages Institute and other universities participated in the competition.
The competition is divided into three levels: junior group, intermediate group and senior group. On the field, the players of each school demonstrated the Portuguese language skills with fluent spoken language, high passion, and appropriate actions, which enabled the audience to feel the charm of language and culture. The excellent performance of the players from time to time won audience’s applause. The first two teams in each group received awards from the Guan Leyi Foundation.
In the end, Maofeng Lin, a Portuguese major undergraduate of the 2017 grade from College of Foreign Languages in our school, was well acclaimed by the judges of the experts with a solid language foundation and outstanding performance and own the second place of the junior team and demonstrated the temper of Nankai students.
The Portuguese is one of the “youngest” major in Nankai University. In 2016, the college opened a second language course in Portuguese, and in September 2017 the college recruited the first batch of Portuguese major students. The participation in the national Portuguese poetry recitation competition tested the teaching quality of the Portuguese major in our school.
