On March, 14th, Wei Dapeng, Secretary of Party Committee of NK, came to the College of Foreign Languages to do research.
The teacher who is responsible for the Party and government affairs reported the development of CFL in 2017 and its work planning in 2018 and gave a detailed presentation of its teaching and scientific research, discipline building, discipline evaluation, talents recruitment, faculty, “general plus non-general” students cultivation, academic conferences, international exchanges and cooperation, the building of the college history museum, its opportunities and challenges and difficulties. Everyone actively offered suggestions on how schools, colleges, and disciplines can develop better and faster.
Wei Dapeng gave recognition to the work of CFL and its achievement after listening to the speeches seriously, and extended his sincere greetings to all faculty. He also discussed relevant issues with teachers from time to time.
Wei Dapeng pointed out that CFL had a long history and a good foundation for development which had cultivated a large number of outstanding talents for the country. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Mu Dan, a famous poet and translator who taught at the Department of Foreign Languages of NK. The college should carry forward the excellent spiritual quality and work style of the Nankai sages in the academic research and talents cultivation ,by fully exploring and summarizing its own historical traditions and historical culture, which will help to promote the college's reforms and career development, and constantly enhance its influence at home and abroad, striving for the first-class college of foreign languages.
Wei Dapeng requested that the college should further strengthen the building of the teaching staff and conform to the new situation and new requirements for the development of the new era by continuously sticking to the principles of emancipation of the mind, change of concepts, advancement with the times, and the principle of seeking truth from facts and and concrete analysis of specific issues so that the college can solve the problem of the development of the teacher team by formulating scientific and reasonable criteria for the selection and evaluation of teachers and gradually accumulate and expand the strength of young and middle-aged teachers and strive to create a healthy and harmonious working environment for teachers through the policy of introduction and training at the same time; and the college must stimulate the enthusiasm and initiative creativity of teachers in the college, work together to improve the level of discipline construction, improve the talents quality, and promote the teaching quality of foreign languages in NK by raising the core competitiveness through the discipline construction and by fully digging its own high-quality resources; in addition, the college also should highlight the characteristics of CFL of NK by giving full play to its advantages, continually pay attention to the major strategies and needs of the our country’s reform and development and serve “the Belt and and Road”initiative and the development of the Northeastern Asia so that we can make contribution to the spread the excellent Chinese culture and actively offer valuable advice and suggestions for important guidelines and policies of the Party and the government, by which we can realize our goal of “knowing China and serving China”, make the world hear the voice of NK and see our action; finally, the college should further strengthen the Party's construction with focusing on the characteristics of foreign language disciplines, firmly grasp the leadership, management, and discourse power in ideology and deepen the ideological and political awareness of teachers and students by giving full play to the role of the party members, promoting the construction of a clean and honest government and by creating a positive development atmosphere and a favourable education environment.
Wei Dapeng pointed out that the College of Foreign Languages should take the lead in the internationalization of Nankai University, establish the development goal of building a “first-class” foreign language academy, and strive to become a model and a benchmark for the whole university and nationwide and contribute more to the construction of a world-class university and disciplines. The leadership team of the college is united in strenuous efforts, has clear thinking, and has clear plans. In the future, they will continue to strengthen communication and exchanges with various departmental units and actively promote to solve the bottlenecks in the work. The school will comprehensively deepen reforms in various fields, focus on improving the level of management services, and provide support and guarantee for the development of the college.
