Contestants from Nankai University advanced to the next round in the north China Regional Competition of the 5th National Interpretation Contests

Recently, Tianjin Division Competition of the 5th National Interpretation Contests was open in Tianjin Foreign Studies Universities. It is jointly organized by Translators Association of China and China Translation and Publishing Corporation, and co-hosted by Translators Association of Tianjin and Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation of Tianjin Foreign Studies Universities. There were overall 41 contestants who came from 11 universities in Tianjin. Five contestants from Nankai University, led by Ms Luan Haiyan, entered the contest after the campus competition.

The contest was divided into English-Chinese part and Chinese-English part, both of which concerned with “clean energy resources” and “FTA negotiations between China and Australia” etc. After fierce competition, Li Jiali and Hu Wen, two graduate students, won the second prize.

It is said that the National Interpretation Contest is a traditional contest catering to all the universities nationwide, and has been successfully organized five times. It constructs an important platform on which the students and teachers of Translation Department can exchange ideas and present themselves to each other. It also plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ interpretation skill and cross-cultural communication ability. In the Tianjin Division Contest, two first prize winners and 4 second prize winners advanced to the next round in the north China Regional Competition, which will be held in the mid May.
