On April 22, Professor Wang Lifei, Dean of School of English Studies and also one of the founders of Business English Studies in China, was invited to hold a weekend academic lecture for the graduate students at Room 139. Some teachers and students from CFL and Tianjin University of Technology attended the lecture.
Professor Zhang Wenzhong, one of the members of the ELT Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, PhD supervisor and the Director of the English Department of the CFL, chaired the lecture.
The topic of Professor Wang’s lecture was “Cross-Disciplinary Theory and Case Study on Business Talk”. He analyzed business talk from the perspective of linguistics, containing cross-disciplinary theories such as discourse analysis, text analysis, genre analysis, rhetorical structure, function evaluation, pragmatics, narratology, and cognitive metaphor etc. Professor Wang profiled 4 cases in terms of linguistics and suggested some possible research topics, which broadened research thinking for the attending teachers and students. He encouraged more cross-disciplinary studies with the example of his own fruitful research.
Professor Wang’s began his lecture from a strategically advantageous position. His lecture contained a rich connotation and some interesting cases, which are both prospective and practical, making the audience enjoyed and enlightened.
After the interactive discussion, Professor Zhang Wenzhong summarized and reviewed the lecture. He encouraged the audience to further their own research on cross-disciplinary field to make more breakthroughs in the academic research.
