On the morning of April 7, Dr Dongning Feng, Project Director of the School of Oriental and African Studies under University of London, offered a lecture on “Politics of Translation Studies: a Global Perspective” at the Reporting Hall 111 of CFL. The lecture was chaired by Professor Hu Cuie, Director of Translation Department. Dr. Feng emphatically discussed the new development trends of Chinese and Western translation studies in recent years, and critically analyzed the adaptability of Western translation theories. He summarized the contribution towards developing translation theories made by Chinese scholars and put forward “discarding and inheriting principle” in learning Western translation theories, the aim of which is to enhance academic voice in the Chinese translation theories.
After the lecture, Dr. Feng had an informal discussion on some academic issues of concern with some teachers and students from Translation Department. They discussed a lot on a further collaboration between CFL and University of London.
