Recently, the first Japanese Interpretation Contest “Interpret your Heart and Mind” was held at the Reporting Hall of the College of Foreign Languages. It was one of the activities of the 24th Foreign Languages Festival and attracted many Japanese learning enthusiasts. Some professional teachers and foreign teachers from Japanese Department were invited as the judges.
The contest was divided into two groups of primary and secondary. During the session of “Real Me: Show and Tell”, the contestants displayed various local cultures and interests via well-prepared PPT to the judges, whose witty questions also enlivened the atmosphere. The consecutive interpretation session between Chinese and Japanese languages revealed contestants’ well-knit basic skills and good psychological qualities. After fierce competition, 6 winners acquired the first prizes, the second prizes, and the third prizes in the primary and secondary groups.
The purpose of this contest was to provide a platform for the Japanese learning enthusiasts to display themselves and compete with each other. The contest also aroused the learners’ passions, helped them to have a definite object, and strengthened their abilities in language learning and application.
It was said that the festival’s theme was “Conversance with both Eastern and Western Learning and Brilliant Translations”, with its key words of “academic” and “international perspective”. The main activities were “British Parliamentary Debating Ceremony of Beijing and Tianjin”, multi-language dubbing contest, the “FLTRP Cup” pick-up game on English public speaking contest of Chinese university students, and the fifth national interpretation pick-up contest (aka “translate your heart and mind”) etc. The purpose of holding Foreign Languages Festival is to foster a rich academic atmosphere and provide an academic exchange and contest stage to further the students’ international perspectives.
