A qualification contest of 19th FLTRP Cup National English Debate was held on March 20 in Nankai University. It was jointly hosted by Youth League Committee and Students’ Association Union of Nankai University, and jointly sponsored by CFL and Apex English Debate Association. The final appointed three judges were Stephen, one of the foreign teachers of CFL, Li Jin, the former president of Apex English Debate of Nankai University and the best debater of 2009 Asian Debate Institute, and Liu Ruiyi, the vice sectary of Youth League Committee of CFL.
After 3 rounds points race, 4 teams entered the finals. The contestants debated in turn hotly on the topic “This House would allow mothers to transfer their maternity leaves to their husband.”After a fierce competition, Ni Zou Kai team came out on the top, and Su Yujin, Zhang Junyi and Hu Hongyu won the awards of“Best Debater.”
It is understood that FLTRP Cup National English Debate was initiated in 1997, and was held yearly since then. It is, up to now, the biggest and highest level English debate contest, and has won wide recognition from teachers and students nationwide. The contest in Nankai University was one of the most important activities of Foreign Languages Festival, aiming to cultivate students’ English learning interest, to enhance students’ speaking English. The champion team will represent Nankai University to participate in the selection contest of North China Division in April this year.
